Although COVID-19 has slowed us all down a bit, I am grateful that I was able to squeeze in some family shoots before the weekend lockdowns started up again last week, including a maternity shoot. I love these shoots because I think a lot of women don’t document their pregnancies enough. I was one of them. If it weren’t for my friend Sabina, who brought her nice camera to my shower and insisted on taking some proper portraits, I wouldn’t have any decent photos of myself during my first pregnancy. From my second pregnancy, I just have one that my husband took with my camera when I was only 5 months along, and an early-model iPhone shot from 8 months. To be honest, I didn’t love the way I looked when I was pregnant. I am very short, so my belly looked enormous (I would get stopped in the street and people would say “TWINS! How exciting!”… and no, I was never pregnant with twins). But I love looking through photos of my life and my family, and I really regret not having documented my pregnancies better. I could have gotten out my tripod and photographed myself at any point, and I just didn’t feel like it. So I applaud those of you who booked a photo shoot and documented this incredible time, so that you and your family can look back on it later.
